The first thing you notice about Ben Hanowski is the hair.

 

All of his new Calgary Flames teammates took heed.

“I’ve got to think it’ll get chopped off in the next two weeks,” said Flames forward Michael Cammalleri. “That’s a prediction but not a promise.”

Hanowski, one of the prospects acquired in the trade that sent Jarome Iginla to the Pittsburgh Penguins, made his Flames debut in Monday night’s clash against the Minnesota Wild at the Saddledome.

He was hard to miss during the morning skate — and not just because he was the newest of the newcomers and wearing No. 58.

He’s boasting a shoulder-length mane these days.

“I wish I would have been able to cut it before I came up here,” Hanowski said, noting it was part of a deal with some teammates to grow hair for Locks of Love, which makes wigs for children with cancer.
