Iginla trade the best thing for everybody

The Calgary Flames are finally doing the right thing.

The rebuilding is underway and fans have Jarome Iginla to thank for that.

Not only did he carry the franchise on his back for most of the last 17 years, but his decision to ask for a trade will also help the organization moving forward.

And while it will certainly take years for the moves to effect any significant change, it must be remembered Iginla was the one who made the tough decision to leave.

After a wild evening of speculation, Flames GM Jay Feaster announced that during a recent conversation with Iginla following the team’s collapse in Los Angeles, he made it clear any contract extension in Calgary would be short-term and for considerably less dollars than the US$7 million he’s made here for years.

Realizing the franchise was going nowhere fast, Iginla responded by submitting a list of teams he’d waive his no-trade clause to go to, and three of those made offers to the Flames.
