For a guy whose birthday is St. Patrick's Day, you'd think Mikael Backlund would have more luck.

Sure he's a Swede, but since he'll turn 24 on Sunday, a little luck of the Irish should come into play.

It doesn't seem to be working that way for the Calgary Flames centre.

Backlund was using crutches and wearing a boot on his right foot when he left the Saddledome after his team's 6-3 victory over the Nashville Predators Friday night.

The team had a day off Saturday, so it won't likely be until Sunday when the club practices before departing for a three-game road trip before any update is given for his status.

It's the second time this truncated season the 2007 first-round draft has been injured.

He missed just over four weeks after suffering a MCL sprain in the Feb. 7 clash against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
