CALGARY - If Calgary Flames GM Jay Feaster has had a change of heart on his approach to the trade deadline, he isn’t planning on telling anyone anytime soon.
Two weeks ago, he followed up news that Ryan O’Reilly wouldn’t be joining the Flames by saying his team was “going for it.”
When he said it, his club was 12th in the Western Conference, three points out of a four-way tie for eighth and, to be fair, was up 3-0 on the Avalanche in Colorado during the first intermission.
Well, the Flames went on to lose that game, have since had their California collapse and now sit last in the west, four points out of a four-way tie for eighth before last night’s games.
There are 23 games left in the season and just nine before the April 3 trade deadline.
The obvious question — make that a major concern, in many peoples’ minds — is whether the Flames GM still sees his team as a trade-deadline buyer as it has the last three playoff-less seasons.
