If you’re looking for the perfect way to show the Calgary Flames have been spinning their wheels the last few years, simply look at the numbers.
Monday’s 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings not only has the Flames on a three-game losing skid but sitting on 22 points through 24 games in last place in the NHL’s Western Conference.
Their record through 24 games in the 2011-12 season was also worth 24 points (10-12-2).
Same thing at that point in the ’10-11 season (10-12-2).
Talk about proof the Flames are not on the right path.
In the previous couple of years, the Flames have been optimistic, saying the status-quo will work out. Think of the phrase said by the club’s GM Jay Feaster a year ago: “The answers are in still that room.”
Those answers failed to add up to a playoff spot.
If the Flames needed any further signs what they have been doing — adding veterans with a sprinkling of youth — has not been working, they have it in black and white.
