NHL Playoffs: BOS @ NYR

Flames star goalie Miikka Kiprusoff feels he's on verge of return
By RANDY SPORTAK, QMI Agency

As long as Miikka Kiprusoff has been the standout goalie for the Calgary Flames, there have been a few regular topics of conversation.

One has been the seemingly never-ending search for a competent backup to reduce the workload placed on the star netminder.

The other has been ensuring he doesn’t take too much abuse from the NHL’s crease crashers.

Since Kiprusoff went down with a knee injury Feb. 5 against the Detroit Red Wings — it’s believed to be his right knee — the Flames have addressed both those issues.

One has been the emergence of Joey MacDonald, who will likely continue to carry the load until Kiprusoff returns, including Sunday’s clash with the Vancouver Canucks at the Saddledome (6 p.m., Sportsnet West).

And the other issue?

“We did get Grats (Brian McGrattan) so I think it’s gonna be easier for the goalies,” Kiprusoff said after practising with the team Saturday for the first time since being hurt.

Would Patrick Roy make a good coach for the Colorado Avalanche?
  Yes, he's perfect
  No, he's not ready
  Bring him to Montreal!
