Future approaching fast for Flames
By RANDY SPORTAK, QMI Agency

With the Ryan O’Reilly saga in the books, it can be filed away as a Shakespearean tragic comedy.

Or, maybe it’s a Seinfeld episode.

As goofy as it played out, the Calgary Flames didn’t acquire the young centre or lose their draft picks in the process, despite all the sound and fury which took place the past couple of days. It’s still the same team before the announcement of an offer sheet came down.

Now, Calgary’s floundering hockey heroes must look forward. The oncoming train is coming faster than Scott Stevens bearing down on an unsuspecting forward whose eyes focused on the puck instead of the crushing defenceman.

The O’Reilly saga could be seen as proof this season is destined to be as much of a writeoff as the last few in Calgary.

When the Flames face the Vancouver Canucks Sunday (6 p.m., SNWest) at the Saddledome, they’ll hit the 20-game mark of the 48-game season.

Worse yet, the easiest part of their schedule is done.

Would Patrick Roy make a good coach for the Colorado Avalanche?
  Yes, he's perfect
  No, he's not ready
  Bring him to Montreal!
