Darryl Sutter left Flames on shaky ground
By RANDY SPORTAK, QMI Agency

Former Flames GM Darryl Sutter's draft record for the Calgary club was spotty at best. (ANDRE FORGET/QMI Agency)

The words were laughable then, but now what Calgary Flames president Ken King said when he asked Darryl Sutter to resign more than two years ago seems downright hilarious.

That's if Flames fans enjoy a tragic comedy.

When Sutter was forced out instead of facing the indignity of being fired on Dec. 28, 2010, coincidentally on the anniversary of his hiring as head coach, King opted to heap praise on the long-time general manager.

King, who finally took away the GM keys from Sutter while the NHL club was languishing near the bottom of the league standings and handed them to Jay Feaster, talked about Sutter's "legacy" on which the team could build and called it a "very, very solid foundation."
