Baertschi misses teammates during road trip

Flames rookie forward Sven Baertschi is done with the AHL.


The kid was home alone.

 

It’s not as fun as it sounds.

Sven Baertschi didn’t accompany his Calgary Flames teammates on a six-day road swing due to a hip flexor injury, and the rookie left-winger quickly learned it’s quite lonely around the Saddledome when the rest of the boys are away.

“I spent a lot of time here. Usually I was here from 8 a.m. to about 2 p.m. getting treatment and working out,” Baertschi said.

“I feel like I got stronger. When you can’t do something with your legs, there’s other body parts you can use. I spent a lot of time on the hand-bike and the air-bike, too. A lot of weights, everything.

“It was a long week. The guys were gone, so being by myself in the weight-room, just pushing around weight, isn’t that much fun. But you’ve got to do something to get stronger.”
