So if you think the Calgary Flames head coach walked into the dressing room after Saturday's 5-1 road shellacking from the Vancouver Canucks, added a bit of Donnie Brasco to his Francophone accent, and told his charges to Fuhgetaboutit, you're dead wrong.
"No, you can't forget," Hartley insisted after Saturday's rout at Rogers Arena. "Obviously, you can't dwell on it, you can't live in the past, but there are certain players that they need to look in the mirror and they need to say, 'I just need to be better.'
"We're in the professional business. To be mediocre is just not acceptable."
The players, some of whom weren't even mediocre against the Canucks, don't have much time to lick their wounds.
The Flames (3-4-2) were off Sunday but return to the rink for Monday's meeting with the Minnesota Wild (5-5-1), their first of three games this week at the Saddledome.
