NHL Playoffs: NYR @ BOS

Flames' Iginla finally finds back of net
By RANDY SPORTAK, QMI Agency

Jarome Iginla did the dirty work to score his first of the season Tuesday in Detroit. Rebecca Cook/Reuters.

DETROIT — Almost every other game, Jarome Iginla scoring his first goal of the season in Game 7 would be a headline story of a Calgary Flames game.

Instead, it was nearly lost in the shuffle of Tuesday’s 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

With star goalie Miikka Kiprusoff suffering an injury and leaving the game for the first time in an eternity, and 2006 first-round draft choice Leland Irving stepping into the fray and delivering a perfect performance, Iginla’s tally wasn’t exactly centre-stage material.

It didn’t prevent the Flames captain from feeling relieved.

“The first of the year is always nice to get over with,” Iginla said.

“You never want to go six without it, and at the beginning of the season, it’s always magnified."
