Flames coach Bob Hartley plays the wrong game with Sven Baertschi

CALGARY - Maybe it’s just a mind game.
Maybe Bob Hartley is only trying to scare Sven Baertschi enough to provide some extra motivation.
Maybe the Calgary Flames coach wants to make his rookie awake Saturday morning with some extra fire and then carry that emotion into the night game against the Edmonton Oilers.
It simply doesn’t make sense to actually follow through with the all-too-obvious threat witnessed during Friday’s practice.
Baertschi was the odd-man out among a fourth-line quartet of himself, Steve Begin, Blair Jones and Blake Comeau during the session.
Logically, that would mean Baertschi would be a healthy scratch, along with fellow forward Tim Jackman and defenceman Chris Butler, for the Hockey Night in Canada clash at the Saddledome.
But this is the wrong time for a banishment.
It’s the wrong game.
Wrong opposition, too.
