Kiprusoff steals point for Flames
By WES GILBERTSON, QMI Agency
VANCOUVER - In a town that is notoriously tough on netminders, you knew the locals smelled blood when they started chanting the name of Calgary Flames star Miikka Kiprusoff in the second period.
And not in a good way.
You know the calls from the stands, long and drawn out, like Sasha Lakovic's turn in a fastest skater competition.
Fortunately for the Flames, everything seemed to be happening in slow motion Wednesday night for their flexible netminder, as Kiprusoff stole the show — and a point — in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
If Canucks goalie Cory Schneider wasn't just as good, and if the Flames had cashed in on a couple of opportunities, one by Michael Cammalleri and the other by Lee Stempniak, to end the skills-competition, the Flames would have taken two points from their rivals.
