Buyouts not a viable option for Flames

CALGARY - Buyout is a word making the rounds of the NHL.
It’s a word brought up often around the Calgary Flames.
With news Tuesday the NHL suddenly will allow buyouts in time for this season, it’s natural to look at who the Flames should pay to walk away.
The answer is simple: Nobody.
As much as there may be fans out there who wish the team would jettison a player or two they believe aren’t worth the contract, it makes no sense for the Flames to go in that direction at this time.
Flames GM Jay Feaster succinctly shot down the possibility.
“We have no intention to avail ourselves of the accelerated compliance buyout opportunity,” Feaster said Tuesday afternoon.
It’s not like the Flames have anybody in the category the New York Rangers find themselves in with defenceman Wade Redden or the Montreal Canadiens with centre Scott Gomez.
