CALGARY - It’s not a total rebuild.
Michael Ferland isn’t starting his game over from scratch.
But, the Calgary Flames prospect admittedly has a long way to go to believe he’s back on the right track.
Step one will be regaining his confidence.
“That’s something I’m working on right now,” the 20-year-old left winger said Tuesday. “I don’t really have much of it.”
It would be an understatement to say it’s been a tumultuous six months for Ferland, Calgary’s fifth-round choice, 133rd overall, in the 2010 NHL draft.
Ferland had high hopes for his first pro season after an excellent 2011-12 WHL season in which he collected 47 goals and 96 points, but things went off track before it even began.
He was charged with aggravated assault and assault from an July incident in Cochrane, which he’s maintained his innocence, and has a June court date.
