The Calgary Flames put goalie Henrik Karlsson on injured reserve Monday.

Karlsson sprained the MCL in his right knee during the Flames' 5-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.

Karlsson is 0-4-1 with a 3.48 goals-against average in six games this season.

Goaltender Leland Irving was called up from Abbotsford of the AHL to take Karlsson's spot on the roster. In 23 games with Abbotsford this season, Irving is 15-7-0 with three shutouts and a 2.30 GAA.

The Flames also assigned winger Stefan Meyer to Farjestad BK of the Swedish Elite League and signed forward Michael Ferland to an entry-level contract.

Meyer, who played 16 games with the Flames last season, had dressed just six times for Abbotsford of the AHL. Ferland, Calgary's fifth-round draft pick in 2010, has 17 goals and 25 assists in 29 games with Brandon of the WHL.

The Vancouver Canucks should replace ex-coach Alain Vigneault with...
  Guy Boucher.
  Lindy Ruff.
  Andy Murray.
  Jacques Martin.
  Brent Sutter.
  Don Hay.
  Other.
