Flames' Backlund eyes return soon
By RANDY SPORTAK, QMI Agency

Backlund

Mikael Backlund is readying for his eventual return from the pre-season finger injury.

Backlund, who has had a pair of surgeries on his left pinkie, spent part of Saturday getting a new pair of skates ready for his eventual return to action, pegged to be in mid-November.

He told everybody through Twitter.

“Great feeling being back at two hand #stickhandling. Getting closer!!! Now time to #multitask, ultra sound on pinky and heat up new skates,” was the message.

Backlund then sent out of a photo of both his hands in the foreground while equipment manager Mark DePasquale tied one of his new skates.

The message: “What a great equipment manager we got!!! #MarkDepasquale #Depo.”

To his credit, Backlund even had an open conversation with some fans before heading to a Kids Cancer Care Halloween function.

Backlund has been skating and spent a couple of days with Sven Baertschi, the club’s 2011 first-round draft choice who suffered a hip/groin injury and had been in Calgary to work with the team’s staff while the WHL Portland Winterhawks were on a road trip.

Should the New York Rangers buy out Brad Richards after benching him in Game 4?
  Yes.
  Might be a good idea.
  No.
  Not sure.
