The Calgary Flames signed defenseman Chris Butler to a two-year, $2.5 million contract on Friday.
Butler, 24, has played all three of his NHL seasons with the Buffalo Sabres, scoring five goals and posting 36 points. He has a plus-four rating in 155 games.
The Flames acquired Butler and forward Paul Byron in a draft day trade with Buffalo for defenseman Robyn Regehr, forward Ales Kotalik and a second round pick in 2012.
