Kipper won't start in Ottawa
By STEVE MACFARLANE, QMI Agency

OTTAWA — After replacing Miikka Kiprusoff in Carolina Tuesday night to help his Flames earn a point in a 6-5 shootout loss after trailing 5-2 in the second period, backup goaltender Henrik Karlsson gets the start Friday night in Ottawa against the Senators.

Head coach Brent Sutter didn't say who would start Saturday in Toronto against the Maple Leafs, but his words Thursday seemed to indicate Kiprusoff wouldn't be out of the net for long.

The starter has struggled at times in his last three starts, and allowed four goals on eight shots against the Canes before being pulled early in the second period.

He's being given time to rest and work on his technique.

But the defence in front of Karlsson will be missing one of its top performers. Robyn Regehr briefly tested his sore knee Friday morning but will not play against the Sensators.

With Steve Staios not yet ready to return to game action, Brendan Mikkelson will fill in for Regehr.
