Mark Giordano is staying put at the Saddledome.
The Calgary Flames announced Friday afternoon that the smooth-skating defenceman - regarded as one of the most underrated blueliners in the NHL - has signed a five-year contract extension.
Terms of the new deal were not immediately available.
Giordano, 27, was slated to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Instead, he'll be wearing the Flaming C through the 2015-16 campaign.
The Flames signed Giordano as an undrafted free agent in 2004. In 205 career games in the NHL, he has scored 20 times and added 48 assists.
