CALGARY - The dislocated shoulder suffered by Adam Pardy at the Calgary Flames home opener results in Steve Staios making his season debut on the blueline, where he'll be paired with rookie T.J. Brodie.

The news isn't so good for Cory Sarich. Sarich is slated to be scratched for a third straight game to start the season, a tough pill to swallow for the veteran blueliner who has a US$3.6 million salary cap hit and a no-movement clause.

Staios isn't the only Flames player to make his season debut Thursday night when they face the Florida Panthers at the Saddledome.

Centre Matt Stajan has been given the green light to play, having recovered from the separated shoulder suffered in the pre-season opener. Stajan will play in the middle on the second line between Brendan Morrison -- moved to right wing with the loss of Rene Bourque (head) -- and Niklas Hagman.

Although the time will come soon for Henrik Karlsson to receive his first start in net for the Flames, it won't be tonight. Miikka Kiprusoff is slated to play.
