CALGARY - Niklas Hagman has an eye on playing in pre-season games this week.

Especially now that the Calgary Flames left winger can see without any problems.

Hagman skated Sunday -- the first time since Tuesday's game in Vancouver -- and let it be known he suffered an eye injury in that outing.

"I scratched my eye. During the game, it was OK. After that, it got a little irritated," Hagman said. "My vision was a little blurry, so I didn't want to take any chances with that. Now, it's good. I can see well. I'm good to go."

Hagman, slated to be the Flames' second-line left winger, netted a goal and an assist in the 3-1 victory on the West Coast despite being hurt when he was hit by a glove in the face during incidental contact. He didn't skate for four days, but he was pushing hard on the Saddledome ice while most of his teammates were doing off-ice workouts Sunday.

"I felt good," he said. "Had a good skate. (Monday), I'm going to practise with the team."

He wasn't wearing a visor in the game but was while skating with fellow injured players John Negrin and Matt Pelech.

"I've been on and off with visors, so now I'm going to keep it on for a little bit longer," Hagman said.

Which, we'll presume, means during the games this week. The Flames face the Phoenix Coyotes at home Tuesday before going to Saskatoon to play the New York Islanders the next night and then to Edmonton Friday.

Calgary's pre-season slate concludes Sunday against the Oilers.

"We'll get him some good practices the next day or two, a couple of good practices, and then hopefully get him one or both of the games in the middle of the week," said head coach Brent Sutter.

Hagman missed the first practice due to the flu and then suffered this eye injury.

It's hardly the way to build some momentum heading into the season for the winger coming off a 25-goal season.

"There's still plenty of time. I don't worry about that," he insisted.
