Flames Game Day
By STEVE MACFARLANE, QMI Agency

5:30 P.M., SPORTSNET, FAN 960

CALGARY FLAMES (28-21-8)

AT

FLORIDA PANTHERS (24-23-9)

COMING IN

Curtis Glencross scored a hat-trick to help the Flames claim a 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at the Saddledome Wednesday night. It was just their second win in 12 games, coming against the last-place teams in both the Western and Eastern Conferences.

Six new players are in the lineup following the massive shakeup that started with the departure of Dion Phaneuf last weekend. On the bright side, the Flames have six points of a possible 10 in their last five games and woke up in eighth spot in the west.

Close to a playoff position in the east, the Panthers are well rested but coming off a tough 3-0 loss at home to the Anaheim Ducks Monday night. They've won three of their last five and six of 10, with a 6-3-1 record in that span.

HEAD TO HEAD

The last three games between these two clubs have required extra time to determine a winner. The Panthers won the last meeting Dec. 12, 2008, at the Saddledome, 3-2 in a shootout. The Flames sport a 10-6-3-1 record against the Panthers since the latter joined the league for the 1993-94 season.

FLORIDA -- RW Nathan Horton (fractured leg) is out until after the Olympic break.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON THESE TWO PLAYERS IN TONIGHT'S GAME

CURTIS GLENCROSS, LEFT-WING

He was probably a little out of his element on the first two lines throughout the season, but he showed how he could take advantage of mismatches with a hat-trick while playing with Eric Nystrom and Jamal Mayers on the fourth line Wednesday night vs. the Canes.

DAVID BOOTH, LEFT-WING

The talented and tenacious winger returned to action on the weekend for the first time since his concussion Oct. 24 in Philadelphia. Booth assisted on the opening goal in a 2-0 win over the Islanders Sunday. He fired six shots in a loss to the Ducks Monday.
