Last night at Los Angeles
By RANDY SPORTAK, SUN MEDIA
REPORT CARD Overall: C Offence: C- Defence: B Goaltending: B Powerplay: D Penalty kill: D WHY FLAMES LOST Frankly, they weren't anywhere near as sharp, or intense, as they were two nights earlier in San Jose in that exciting 2-1 win. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick did come up with a few big stops at key times. WHAT IT MEANS A 4-2-0 road trip is certainly no small feat, and nothing to sneeze at. However, the Flames dropped two of their last three games on the trip and now are behind Colorado in the standings, albeit with three games in hand. GOAL OF THE GAME Kings forward Scott Parse scored a goal that deserves to be seen again and again. He gained a step on the defencemen and cut to the net. Just before he would have crashed into Miikka Kiprusoff, Parse made a deke and then dove so he didn't hit the netminder and tucked the puck into the cage. HIT OF THE GAME Flames D Staffan Kronwall played an NHL game for the first time since Halloween and made his presence felt with a couple of hard hits doled out on Kings captain Dustin Brown. UP NEXT Tomorrow: Atlanta Thrashers at Calgary Flames, 7:30 p.m., Sportsnet, FAN960. |
