Flames Tonight
By STEVE MACFARLANE, SUN MEDIA

7:30 P.M., SPORTSNET / FAN 960

COMING IN

The Flames haven't lost a game in regulation since Oct. 31 and are 5-0-1 since. Although a troubling lack of effort has followed their early goals in the first period, it's tough to find fault in a 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto a night after falling 2-1 to the Sabres in a shootout in Buffalo over the weekend.

The Avs are in the midst of their worst stretch of the season with three straight losses and just two wins in their last seven tilts. They were embarrassed 8-2 by the Vancouver Canucks in Denver Saturday.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

This is their second of six meetings this season. The Avs claimed a 3-2 victory Oct. 28 at the Saddledome on Wojtek Wolski's third-period goal. The Flames were up 2-0 just 1:10 into the game but were stoned by goaltender Craig Anderson the rest of the way. The Avs have won the last three meetings, but the Flames own a slight 15-13-3 edge since the lockout.

QUOTE OF NOTE

"Teams know we're for real, and they're playing a little bit harder against us." o -- Avalanche captain Adam Foote, discussing the team's 2-4-1 slump following a 10-1-2 start.
