Sent down to the AHL Abbotsford Heat by the Flames yesterday was a talented trio expected to push for playing time with the big club in the near future.

Wingers Mikael Backlund and Brett Sutter and defenceman Matt Pelech are headed for the minors but were given high praise from Flames head coach Brent Sutter.

"They're all very, very close," Sutter said.

Moss skates with top duo

Out since the second pre-season game with an undisclosed injury, David Moss is set to return tomorrow against the Vancouver Canucks.

And if yesterday's practice lines are any indication, he might have been given a promotion while resting a suspected pulled groin. He joined Olli Jokinen and Jarome Iginla in drills.

"I'm going to be ready to rock Saturday," said Moss.

McGrattan wants on ice

Flames enforcer Brian McGrattan is looking forward to today. He has a date with the doctors to check out his surgically repaired shoulder for the OK to play in games.

"I've been dying the last couple of weeks to get in there," McGrattan said.
