Playoff ticket rush begins

The race for the Stanley Cup looms, but the faceoff for Flames playoff tickets has already arrived.

A total of 1,300 ducats are up for grabs through a lottery system similar to those used in seasons past.

And judging from those previous campaigns, they won't last long, said Rollie Cyr, the Flames' vice-president of sales and ticketing.

"History has shown there's a much bigger demand than supply and we're absolutely happy it's that way -- we've had upwards of 100,000 fans register for 1,500 tickets," said Cyr.

Starting yesterday, fans can register for the chance to purchase 600 of the tickets at the calgaryflames.com website.

Tomorrow, 200 ducats will go up for a random draw at Calgary Co-op stores.

On Friday, 500 tickets go up for grabs at SportChek stores, where registrations will be held.

The winning purchasers for all three draws will be contacted Monday.

Those chosen will be eligible for a maximum of two tickets each -- part of a process Cyr said is as equitable as possible.

"We're trying to get the fairest and broadest distribution -- the feedback we're getting from our fans is that it's fair," he said.

Draws will be held for as long as the Flames remain in the playoff hunt and past winners will remain eligible throughout.

The NHL playoffs start next Wednesday, but it's yet to be determined when the Flames begin their post-season play.
