DALLAS STARS (33-28-8)

CALGARY FLAMES (40-23-6)

COMING IN

The Flames stunk it up in Hogtown with an 8-6 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs to end their seven-game road trip with a 3-4 record. The Stars were in Vancouver last night looking for a third straight win.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

The Stars have won both meetings this season by identical 3-1 scores.

SPECIAL TEAMS

POWERPLAY -- Calgary 19.5% (59-303, T-14th); Dallas 15.8% (48-304, 25th).

PENALTY KILLING -- Calgary 83.7% (6th); Dallas 79.5% (T-22nd).

INJURIES

CALGARY -- LW Todd Bertuzzi (knee), RW Rene Bourque (ankle), C Wayne Primeau (foot), D Mark Giordano (shoulder) D Rhett Warrener (shoulder) are out.

DALLAS -- RW Jere Lehtinen (upper-body) is probable. LW Fabian Brunnstrom (upper-body), RW Mark Parrish (undisclosed) are questionable. C Brad Richards (wrist), LW Brenden Morrow (knee), D Zergei Zubov (hip), C Toby Petersen (lower-body) are out.

THREE STORYLINES TO WATCH

THE ARRIVAL -- It'll be interesting to see how newcomers Olli Jokinen and Jordan Leopold play in their home debuts for the Flames. It's Leopold's second stint with the team, but things are different now and he's playing with Dion Phaneuf, not Robyn Regehr. For Jokinen, bringing his scoring touch to the Dome would give the fans something to cheer about.

TURCO OR NO? -- With the Stars needing every precious point to make the playoffs and back-to-backs against the Canucks last night and the Flames tonight, you have to wonder if G Marty Turco gets both starts. Turco has played a big role in the Stars winning both games against the Flames this year by identical 3-1 scores.

PK NOT OK -- It's been March madness in the Flames end on the penalty kill this month. In eight games, they've kept the opposition scoreless on the man-advantage just once. Giving up 10 powerplay goals to the opposition in the past five games alone -- including threes against both the Detroit Red Wings and Carolina Hurricanes -- contributed to losses in four of those outings.

PLAYERS TO KEEP YOUR EYE ON ...

FLAMES

LW Curtis Glencross -- Speedy winger has points in his last four games (two goals, three assists), which has helped him earn a spot on the Flames' top line alongside C Olli Jokinen and RW Jarome Iginla. On his way to potentially his most productive month of the season, Glencross has eight points in eight games in March and could become a key contributor down the stretch.

STARS

C Mike Ribeiro -- Shifty pivot took a seven-game point streak (four goals, six assists) into last night's contest in Vancouver. With injuries decimating the lineup, the Stars have leaned heavily on their top point producer. He's holding together a top line of Steve Ott and Loui Eriksson and making both better players thanks to his vision and playmaking ability as the Stars try to hang on to a playoff spot.

IT'S WORTH NOTING ...

The Flames live in Stampede City, and they're all converting into country music fans these days. It helps that Garth Brooks gave them and their better halves a private show Sunday night at the Palomino Smokehouse to reward the team for helping his Teammates for Kids charity.

"I'm not a huge country fan, but Garth Brooks is maybe the biggest of all time, both pop and country. He'd be on both charts," said Flames C Craig Conroy. "You know most of his songs." Defenceman Adrian Aucoin was the ringleader in bringing Brooks to Calgary after getting involved in the charity as a member of the New York Islanders. He told his willing teammates if every Flame signed up, Brooks would come to town for an exclusive concert. "For him to come in here, so down to Earth -- signed stuff for everybody, took pictures," said Conroy. "It was special." Unsure it would ever actually happen, Conroy said the guys were going to sign up for the cause anyway. "I honestly didn't think he was going to come. That was in September," said Conroy. "True to their word, five months later, there he is. It was pretty cool."

Brooks played for the Nashville Predators last month.

DOWN THE STRETCH

Stars winger Krys Barch thinks fans in Dallas should enjoy watching their fight for the playoffs rather than wring their hands wondering whether or not they'll get in. They're one of six teams within four points of each other battling for the bottom two seeds in the Western Conference playoffs.

"I think it's great," Barch told The Dallas Morning News this week. "I mean, it's really like we're in the playoffs every night, and every team we play against feels the same way. They always say the playoffs are the best time of the year, and we've pretty much been in the playoffs since January or February. Who wouldn't want to watch that?"
