WHY FLAMES LOST

Great goaltending wasn't enough to get it done in the absence of consistent pressure offensively for the Flames. They were outworked along the boards and had trouble containing the Ducks in their own end.

HIT OF THE GAME

Flames D Dion Phaneuf absolutely levelled C Andrew Ebbett in the last minute of the second period.

GOAL OF THE GAME

Quick, accurate, and important. LW Curtis Glencross gave the Flames a 2-1 lead in the second period with a perfect snapshot into the top shelf over J-S Giguere's left shoulder.

SAVE OF THE GAME

Miikka Kiprusoff was on his game, coming up with a couple of big saves in the opening period after his team staked him a one-goal lead. His biggest was a left-leg kick that turned away D Chris Pronger's one-timer set up by C Ryan Getzlaf and RW Corey Perry.

SCRATCHES

CALGARY -- RW Brandon Prust, D Jim Vandermeer (ankle).

ANAHEIM -- C Ryan Carter.

NOTABLES

C Craig Conroy played his 900th NHL contest last night. The 37-year-old Flame is tied for fourth on the team with 22 assists ... G Jean-Sebastien Giguere started his third straight game ... C Ryan Getzlaf took a Dion Phaneuf slapper in the knee (ask Wayne Primeau and Jim Vandermeer how that feels) but walked it off during a TV timeout and didn't miss a shift ... D Robyn Regehr got caught with a puck in the face in the first period, but returned to start the second ... The Ducks honoured veteran RW Teemu Selanne last night by bringing in former C Steve Rucchin to present his ex-linemate with a pictorial collage to celebrate Selanne's record for most games played for the franchise. Selanne passed Rucchin Jan. 31, playing his 617th game for the club. He's scored 340 goals and amassed 720 points in 621 games with the Ducks, and holds the franchise record in powerplay goals (130) and points (296), game-winners (57) and assists (380) ... Flames head coach Mike Keenan has been fairly vocal about the unfavourable scheduling his team deals with. It's nice they took a short bus ride to Los Angeles for the second half of back-to-back appearances against the Ducks and Kings. "I think it's a lot better than certainly taking an airplane ride for two or three hours," Keenan said yesterday.
