'Do you like the new haircut? Iginla says yes despite losing

A cut above his teammates in the playoffs, Jarome Iginla is keeping his playoff cut.

The "frohawk" that started a first-round fad in the Calgary Flames locker-room was still on display when Iginla chatted with members of the media Friday as the players said goodbye for the summer.

In fact, it looked freshly adjusted.

"I'm playing it by ear. I already grew it this long -- it takes a while -- so might as well keep going," said Iginla.

Some others bailed on their first-round look. Craig Conroy, the barber behind many a mohawk this spring, sported an evenly shaved scalp.

Considering the rate of recruiting, a deep playoff run would have all but guaranteed a room full of frohawk, mohawk, faux-hawk and Eric Nystrom's description of his own bohawk (balding mohawk).

"We had big plans," said Iginla, whose Flames fell to the San Jose Sharks. "Next series, more guys join and have fun with it. I'm sure we could have got everybody by the end. It would have been great. Another year."

Oddly enough, Iginla's scruffy beard -- well, his unruly attempt at a beard, anyway -- was shaved.

Asked how quickly he took the stubble away, the facial-follically challenged captain of the Flames answered, "A lot quicker than it grew."
