SUN THREE-STARS

1. Roberto Luongo, Canucks. Made all the saves he needed to make for the victory, Vancouver's first of the season.

2. Daymond Langkow, Flames. Another two-goal performance for the under-rated centre.

3. Dion Phaneuf, Flames. He made two saves when Kiprusoff was down and out late in the third.

UNSUNG HERO

Taylor Pyatt of the Canucks didn't turn up on the scoresheet but he had a good number of solid scoring chances.

WHY FLAMES LOST

Because another comeback went for naught thanks to a goofy conclusion. Despite tying the game late in the third period, a powerplay goal with 4.7 seconds -- Vancouver's fourth of the night -- made the difference.

BIG SAVE

Late in the first period, Calgary's Alex Tanguay sent a perfect feed for Jarome Iginla on a two-on-one. Iginla's shot -- which could have made it a 2-0 game for the Flames -- was denied when Roberto Luongo reached back with the paddle of his stick to stop it before it crossed the line.

CALGARY SCRATCHES

D David Hale, C Warren Peters, RW David Moss (arm).

SENT DOWN

C Warren Peters was sent down to AHL Quad City after the game.

UP NEXT

Flames at Detroit Red Wings, Wednesday, 5:30 p.m., Pay-per-view.
