GOALTENDERS

Miikka Kiprusoff: Called to duty early when Ryan Kesler broke in alone in the opening minute ... Very good pre-season debut. B+

Curtis McElhinney: Not the performance the likely back-up wanted with a trio of goals allowed, though one was a neat deflection. D

DEFENCEMEN

Dion Phaneuf: Absolutely drilled Nathan McIver deep in Vancouver territory and led the Flames with hits ... Hasn't quite clicked on his powerplay game. C

David Hale: Had Vancouver's Ryan Kesler in his sights early in the game and rocked him ... Quiet game otherwise, which is a good thing for defensive defenceman. C+

Adrian Aucoin: Icetime leader finding his form slowly but surely ... Got caught flat-footed which led to a Canucks scoring chance. C+

Brett Palin: Played the least of the d-men ... OK performance in a limited role but in tough to be the first call-up from the minors. C

Adam Pardy: Showing signs of knowing how to use his body ... Eliminated a couple of scoring chances by recovering quickly. C

Rhett Warrener: Veteran one of the few playing on back-to-back nights ... Saw more icetime than he'll likely see during the regular season. C+

FORWARDS

Stephane Yelle: Struggled at the faceoff dot ... Threw a couple of hits ... Not a bad game but not a big game. C

Eric Godard: Managed 18 penalty minutes with only 24 seconds of icetime in the first period. C-

Matthew Lombardi: Used his speed on a few shifts and created a couple of scoring chances ... Broke through for a partial breakaway but couldn't bury it. B-

Wayne Primeau: Didn't play any extra icetime compared to what he'll likely see in the season. C

Eric Nystrom: Visible first period. Quality scoring chance by going to the net on a give-and-go play. Wasn't as noticeable in the final two periods. C+

Craig Conroy: Skated as a right wing. Didn't generate the scoring chances you'd like to see from a defacto first line. C

David Moss: Had a couple of early scoring chances from the front of the net. C-

Grant Stevenson: Steady game from the candidate for that open spot among the forward ranks. Had a couple of scoring chances. B

Alex Tanguay: Didn't shoot on a golden chance from the slot while on the powerplay ... Still not quite in fine playmaking form. C-

Dustin Boyd: His strongest outing. Generated a few shots and scoring chances. Sent one off the crossbar. B

David Van der Gulik: Only a couple of minutes of action in the first period. Created a scoring chance in the middle frame with forecheck. C

Warren Peters: Threw a hard hit on Jason Jaffray to make himself noticeable. C
