'Iron' Mike Keenan is bringing his coaching mettle to Calgary, which has Flames fans fired up in many ways.

Many wonder if the veteran bench boss is a step up from outgoing head man Jim Playfair, while other supporters -- like James Traxler -- are ecstatic about Keenan's no-nonsense approach to coaching hockey.

"I love it," said Traxler last night from Riverbend Station Neighbourhood Pub at 40 RiverGlen Dr. S.E.

"He's going to bring a lot more grit than Playfair -- I think he'll have control of the team ... And with all the talent the Flames have, he'll put a winning product on the ice."

Fans at calgarypuck.com were quick to respond to the initial reports that were confirmed about 9 p.m. by posting more than 400 comments to the site by 11 p.m.

Plenty of the forum's postings praised the move, especially after the Flames' woeful road record last season.

"Keenan as a coach is the best possible answer for that, when he has above average talent on a team he does really well," one member posted.

But more than half the postings disagreed with GM Darryl Sutter's move.

"Goodness gracious, not Keenan. Anybody but," said one posting.
