Sun Three Stars

1. Jonathan Cheechoo, Sharks -- Best player early on scored a big goal in the third.

2. Jarome Iginla, Flames -- Did his best to rally the troops late with two goals.

3. Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames -- The score could easily have been in double digits if not for his play.

UNSUNG HERO

Evgeni Nabokov played a strong game for the Sharks.

WHY FLAMES LOST

They spent a lot of time killing penalties and didn't get their flow going until late in the third period.

SAVE OF THE GAME

It's unfair to pick just one of the 13 Miikka Kiprusoff made in the first period but the blocker stop he made on Matt Carle was huge.

HIT OF THE GAME

Dion Phaneuf crushed Joe Pavelski's face into the glass late in the opening frame, giving the game a little extra tension.

flames SCRATCHES

CALGARY -- LW Eric Godard, F Byron Ritchie, D Mark Giordano, D David Hale, RW Darren McCarty (hernia), D Richie Regehr (concussion).

BURNING QUESTION

Can the Flames clinch against Edmonton or will the Oilers spoil their rivals' playoff hopes as Calgary did in 2002?

WHAT IT MEANS

The Sharks keep their hopes for the Pacific Division title alive while the Flames watch their lead over the Avs narrow once again.
