The Calgary Flames denied a report on French sports network RDS claiming Matthew Lombardi had signed a contract extension.

"It's false," said spokesman Peter Hanlon.

General manager Darryl Sutter didn't return phone calls, nor did Lombardi's agent, Kent Hughes.

According to the report, Lombardi inked a three-year deal that would kick in next season worth $5.5 million US.

Lombardi, 25, is having a breakout season in his third NHL campaign.

He has 20 goals and 46 points .

His contract for this season is worth $800,000 and he'd become a restricted free agent July 1.
