SUN THREE STARS
1. Joe Sakic, Avalanche -- One goal, three assists and continued life.
2. Brett Clark, Avalanche -- A goal, an assist and five blocked shots.
3. Peter Budaj, Avalanche -- It wasn't pretty but he made the second-period saves.
Colorado's Ken Klee was huge in the penalty killing area and logged a ton of minutes.
WHY THE FLAMES LOST
Because they were unable to stop Colorado's powerplay, again. The Avs clicked twice at key times, while the Flames couldn't net the equalizer.
SAVE OF THE GAME
Milan Hejduk was poised to open the scoring for Colorado on an early powerplay but Miikka Kiprusoff flew across the net and made the clutch blocker stop.
GOAL OF THE GAME
You could feel it coming with the Avs on a five-on-three powerplay and Paul Stastny delivered the go-ahead goal late in the second.
HIT OF THE GAME
Rhett Warrener stopped Colorado's Brett McLean dead in his tracks.
CALGARY -- D Andrei Zyuzin, D Mark Giordano, F Byron Ritchie, RW Eric Godard, RW Darren McCarty (hip) and D Richie Regehr (concussion).
COLORADO -- D Ossi Vaananen, RW Scott Parker, D Jordan Leopold (wrist), D Patrice Brisebois (back), C Pierre Turgeon (calf).
Anybody in Flamesland enjoying the tension?
WHAT IT MEANS
A missed chance to eliminate the Avs. Calgary has three games to garner two points. If the Avs lose two points over their final three games, the Flames are still in.
