Flames first-round fodder in mock playoffs

Remember the way the Calgary Flames geared up for the playoffs in 2004?

Breaking down their final 28 games into four, seven-games series, they headed to the post-season run in a winning frame of mind.

They won all four "rounds" en route to a playoff march that ended in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final.

This year, they didn't even make it out of the first round, going down in a hurry, and it's not looking much better beyond that point, either.

From Games 55 through 61, the Flames dropped three of the first four and ended with only two victories in the seven-game span. The second set was favourable, with five wins and a pair of losses -- one in overtime -- and the current round is almost over.

Having dropped games to Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota, with a win over St. Louis, the Flames are down 3-1 in the third seven-game stretch.
