LAST NIGHT IN CALGARY
CALGARY FLAMES (34-21-4-5) MINNESOTA WILD (35-23-1-5)
2 (SO) 1
SUN THREE STARS:
1. Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames -- Made a few big stops, especially while shorthanded, to keep his team alive and was stellar in the showdown.
2. Josh Harding, Wild -- Played a strong couple of periods in relief of Niklas Backstrom.
3. Robyn Regehr, Flames -- A solid all-around game and a tying goal in the third period.
Kristian Huselius' patience paid off, setting up Robyn Regehr for the tying goal.
WHY THE FLAMES WON:
A big goal by Robyn Regehr brought energy back into the Saddledome and goalie Miikka Kiprusoff was unbeatable in the shootout.
Brad Stuart slammed his rear end into Mark Parrish in stride along the boards on an offside play.
Miikka Kiprusoff made three incredible stops in the shootout but his best was a split leg save on a spinorama move by Pierre-Marc Bouchard to clinch it.
Has Miikka Kiprusoff been studying Wild players in case of a shootout?
WHAT IT MEANS:
The Flames moved into a tie for the division lead while the Wild now sit one point behind.
