STARS 4 FLAMES 2
SUN THREE STARS
1. Patrik Stefan, Stars. Deserved more points than he registered and was strong in both ends.
2. Kristian Huselius, Flames. Easily the best player for the visitors, creating scoring chances from start to finish.
3. Darryl Sydor, Stars. Veteran defenceman was a steadying influence for an under-manned side.
Dallas forward Stu Barnes not only scored what amounted to be the eventual game-winner but also did all the little things correctly.
WHY THE FLAMES LOST
Because they were simply outworked, outskated and outperformed by a team without its top two defencemen and two of its best forwards.
His team wasn't ready early but Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff was. Just over a minute after the first goal and with the Flames on the powerplay, Kiprusoff had to stop Patrik Stefan on a breakaway.
Stars rookie Loui Eriksson learned standing still with the puck behind the opposing net is a big no-no. He paid when Robyn Regehr flattened him into the boards.
Were the Flames overconfident going up against a Dallas team missing eight regulars from the lineup?
WHAT IT MEANS
Another game in hand wasted in the Northwest Division chase. The Flames are still one point back of Vancouver, in one fewer contest, and one point ahead of Minnesota.
