FLAMES 7 AVALANCHE 3

SUN THREE STARS

1. Daymond Langkow, Flames -- Two goals and two assists to extend his point streak to four games.

2. Alex Tanguay, Flames -- A slow start but he heated up in his old haunt to set up two key goals in the second.

3. Kristian Huselius, Flames -- The most dangerous Flame early on.

UNSUNG HERO

Roman Hamrlik scored but he was a rock on the defensive side of things, too, while posting big minutes for the Flames.

WHY THE FLAMES WON

They overcame penalty trouble and turned it to their advantage with a pair of shorthanded markers, while completely dominating the Avalanche at even strength.

HUGE HIT

Brett McLean went head-first into the boards in the first period after taking a big shot from Dion Phaneuf, who gathered steam before laying the shoulder on the unsuspecting Avs forward.

FIGHT CARD

Dion Phaneuf wasted no time defending himself when Ian Laperriere crosschecked the Flames defenceman in response to a big hit on Brett McLean. Phaneuf out-muscled the veteran.

BURNING QUESTION

Is there anybody out there who still doubts Daymond Langkow as a No. 1 centre?

WHAT IT MEANS

The first important step in improving their road record in the second half of the season in the Northwest Division.
