SUN THREE STARS

1. Tony Amonte, Flames -- A goal and an assist from the player inserted to the top line.

2. Stephane Yelle, Flames -- Great job with the two rookie forwards.

3. Anze Kopitar, Kings -- A pair of goals for the Kings stellar rookie.

UNSUNG HERO

David Moss's NHL debut was a great night all around, with his first goal.

WHY THE FLAMES WON

Because they overcame a series of potential pitfalls -- injuries and a heavy schedule to name a couple -- and found the intestinal fortitude to regroup each time the Kings came close.

HUGE HIT

Just before the Flames opened the scoring, Kings agitator Sean Avery tried to work his way down the left wing. He was met by Dion Phaneuf, who sent him tumbling to the ice.

BIG SAVE

Late in the opening period, and with L.A.on the powerplay, Dustin Brown had a golden chance to pull his team within a goal but Jamie McLennan stretched out enough to use his blocker for the clutch stop.

BURNING QUESTION

Can they beat Colorado tomorrow night to earn consecutive road wins for only the second time this season?

WHAT IT MEANS

For the first time this season, the Flames sit atop the Northwest Division standings, one point ahead of Edmonton, Minnesota and Colorado.

UP NEXT

Flames at Colorado Avalanche, tomorrow, 7 p.m., PPV, FAN 960.
