WILD 3 FLAMES 2

SHOOTOUT

SUN THREE STARS

1. Manny Fernandez, Wild -- Stopped 33 of 35 shots in regulation and stoned two Flames in the one-on-ones.

2. Brian Rolston, Wild -- Easily the Wild's most tenacious forward on the night, scored in shootout.

3. Byron Ritchie, Flames -- Set up a shorthanded goal and scored in the shootout.

UNSUNG HERO

Miikko Koivu got things rolling for the Wild with the first goal.

WHY THE FLAMES LOST

They recovered from a horrible first but couldn't beat Manny Fernandez in OT or the shootout to complete the comeback.

BIG SAVE

With the game tied 2-2 and the Flames on the powerplay in the latter half of the third period, Manny Fernandez robbed Matthew Lombardi, diving back to turn away a rebound attempt from in close after stopping an initial shot from Dion Phaneuf. He did the same on a Chuck Kobasew wraparound with 39 seconds to play in OT.

WHAT IT MEANS

A point but a disappointing and hard to fathom 3-7-3 record away from the 'Dome.

NOTABLES

LW Marcus Nilson hurt his right knee in practice at the Xcel Energy Center Wednesday afternoon, falling awkwardly near the net during a shootout-type drill. He was wearing a brace and will be checked out by doctors in Calgary today ... F Brandon Prust was recalled from Omaha to fill Nilson's spot but was used sparingly.
