FLAMES 5 AVALANCHE 2

SUN THREE STARS

1. Jarome Iginla, Flames -- Made something happen every shift.

2. Dion Phaneuf, Flames -- His rocket shot led to two powerplay goals.

3. Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames -- A couple of incredible stops to preserve the lead.

UNSUNG HERO

Roman Hamrlik is one of the team's best players and was finally rewarded with a goal and an assist.

WHY THE FLAMES WON

Three powerplay goals in the first half was exactly what the doctor ordered for the team's sputtering powerplay.

BIG SAVE

Seconds after the Flames went up by three, Miikka Kiprusoff preserved the margin by snapping the left pad out to kick away John-Michael Liles' one-timer.

FIGHT CARD

With his team trailing 3-0, Ian Laperriere tried to exact a little revenge on Darren McCarty in the second period. McCarty did a good job of tying his opponent up but got cut in the exchange.

BURNING QUESTION

Did Jose Theodore purposely let former Avs winger Alex Tanguay score?

WHAT IT MEANS

Another victory at the Saddledome, where the Flames have an impressive 8-3 record this season.
