Severity of Yelle's injury up in the air

Calgary Flames forward Stephane Yelle's status, as of now, is out indefinitely.

A more concrete timetable is expected as early as today.

Yelle had to be carted off the ice on a stretcher in Boston Thursday after sliding into the boards feet first, with the initial prognosis a fractured ankle.

Head coach Jim Playfair said his veteran checking centre was sent yesterday for further testing to see the full extent of the damage.

"He had his foot in a cast (after the game) coming home on the plane to get here and get some proper care, MRIs and more in-depth testing."

How the club will adjust without Yelle, the team's best faceoff artist, remains to be seen.

A most likely scenario will be to move Marcus Nilson to the middle on the third line between Jeff Friesen and Tony Amonte and have Byron Ritchie draw into the lineup on the fourth line with Darren McCarty and Jamie Lundmark.

However, that leaves the Flames without any extra forwards. They may consider pulling up a centre from the minors -- Dustin Boyd or Andrei Taratukhin -- or even moving Alex Tanguay into a centre role, with Daymond Langkow also assuming some of the checking duties.
