Game Over

STEVE MACFARLANE -- Calgary Sun

, Last Updated: 10:15 AM ET

SHARKS 4 FLAMES 1

SUN THREE STARS

1. C Patrick Marleau, Sharks -- A pair of assists for the so-called No. 2 centre.

2. C Joe Thornton, Sharks -- His play to set up he first goal was unbelievable.

3. G Vesa Toskala, Sharks -- A few big saves when the game was still close.

UNSUNG HERO:

F Mike Grier, Sharks -- Led all players in hits and helped keep the Flames' powerplay scoreless yet again.

WHY THE FLAMES LOST:

Giveaways and a lack of intensity. You need a good start against a team like San Jose. Playing catch-up just opens up more opportunities for the potent Sharks forwards.

BIG SAVE:

G Vesa Toskala did his best Miikka Kiprusoff impression midway through the second period, diving glove-first to his post to rob C Daymond Langkow of a sure goal after a great fake shot setup from D Roman Hamrlik. A jaded Langkow then snapped his stick over the crossbar.

FIGHT CARD

None.

BURNING QUESTION:

They don't get a lot of attention from the East but is there a better team in the NHL than the San Jose Sharks?

WHAT IT MEANS:

Not much in the grand scheme of things since it's only the third game of the season. But the Flames will have to play much, much better if they want to rack up some points on the road this week.

UP NEXT:

Calgary Flames at Ottawa Senators, Thursday, 5:30 p.m., PPV, Fan 960.
