Red beats black in two

Maybe it's a good omen for the coming season.

Team Red -- the colour of the Calgary Flames sweaters when they play at the Saddledome -- blitzed Team Black 5-1 to take the second of two prospects intra-squad games yesterday.

After a scoreless first half of the two-period game, the Reds stormed beleaguered Black netminder Kevin Lalande with five consecutive goals.

In slightly more than 12 minutes, Brandon Prust -- arguably the best forward over the two prospects games -- Adam Cracknell, John Armstrong and Aki Seitsonen all put pucks behind Lelande.

Dustin Boyd added the Red squad's final tally.

Justin Taylor replied with the lone goal for the Black side, which was beat in both encounters.

For the first half of the game, it was the goaltenders stealing the show.

Brent Krahn held the fort for the Black side, putting in a performance expected from the netminder who sits third on the team's depth chart.

At the other end, 2006 first-round draft choice Leland Irving was again perfect, making a handful of good saves, notably against Hugo Carpentier and Seitsonen.

The 41 prospects have only three more days of camp before disbanding, with main camp beginning Thursday when the veterans report for physicals.

Likely all junior-aged players will be sent down at that time, though head coach Jim Playfair said spots in main camp will be there for any players deserving.
