SUN THREE STARS

1. TONY AMONTE, FLAMES

2. JAMIE LUNDMARK, FLAMES

3. MANNY FERNANDEZ, WILD

TURNING POINT:

After being bashed around behind the Wild net late in the game, Tony Amonte made a quick pass to centre Jamie Lundmark for the Flames' winning goal.

- - -

SAVE OF THE GAME:

Miikka Kiprusoff robbed Marc Chouinard, who found himself all alone in front of the Flames netminder during a first-period powerplay. Chouinard faked Kiprusoff to the inside, causing the Finn to begin a slide across the crease, but Kiprusoff recovered and cut his movement short, then stuck out his right leg and the blocker to deny Chouinard the equalizer.

HIT OF THE GAME:

Dion Phaneuf stepped up on Wild winger Pascal Dupuis at the blueline in the first period, sending the 196-pounder to the ice. Derek Boogaard took a charging penalty for his hard hit on Flames defenceman Andrew Ference in the third period but some would argue it was a clean hit.

- - -

UNSUNG HERO:

Matthew Lombardi played alongside Tony Amonte and Jamie Lundmark, who were by far the Flames' best trio. Miikka Kiprusoff let in a soft goal but also made some stellar saves and deserves at least an honourable mention.

FIGHT CARD:

None.

- - -

SCRATCHES:

* CALGARY -- D Jordan Leopold (groin), D Cale Hulse (upper body), D Rhett Warrener (knee), RW Chuck Kobasew (groin) and LW Mike Leclerc are the walking wounded. F Lynn Loyns, recently called up from Omaha for depth, was a healthy scratch. Both C Jamie Lundmark (eye) and RW Darren McCarty (groin) returned to the lineup.

* MINNESOTA -- C Erik Westrum was a healthy observer alongside D Kurtis Foster. C Randy Robitaille (knee) and Todd White (leg) are out for the season. D Filip Kuba (groin) is day-to-day.

BURNING QUESTION:

Needing just a single point, will the Flames clinch a playoff berth tonight in Vancouver?

- - -

WHAT IT MEANS:

A healthy seven-point lead over the Colorado Avalanche in the Northwest Division. The Avs now have a game in hand but will be hard-pressed to overtake Calgary -- which has gone 5-0-1 since returning from their longest road trip of the year.

- - -

NOTEABLES:

Miikka Kiprusoff was presented the Molson Cup and AMJ Campbell trophy before the opening faceoff. The star goaltender earned the Molson Cup with the most appearances in the three-star selection this season -- the first Flame not named Jarome Iginla to claim the Cup since 2000.
