COMING IN:

Coming off the Olympic break, the Flames looked a little sluggish in a 2-1 loss to the Canucks earlier this week but executed a solid game plan in a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues Thursday night. The San Jose Sharks took a four-game winning streak into last night's game in Edmonton and are making a hard push for the playoffs.

HEAD-TO-HEAD:

The Flames hold a 2-0-1 advantage over the Sharks this season, winning their only home contest and a Feb. 6 date at the 'Dome, while falling 3-2 in a shootout at the HP Pavilion in their first meeting. The Flames hold the all-time edge at 37-23-9-0.

WHO'S HOT:

FLAMES -- Their stars, F Jarome Iginla and G Miikka Kiprusoff, were shining Thursday night. Iginla scored a pair, including an empty-netter, in the win. Kiprusoff made 20 saves, 14 in the second period alone.

SHARKS -- Sharks centres Joe Thornton (4G, 9A) and Patrick Marleau (5G, 8A) each have 13 points in their last five games.

WHO'S NOT:

FLAMES -- F Tony Amonte's goal drought has reached 14 games and he's pointless in seven.

SHARKS -- G Evgeni Nabokov, Russia's Olympic netminder, hasn't played an NHL game since Feb. 6 when he dropped a 4-3 decision to the Flames.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

POWERPLAY -- Calgary 18.3% (64-349, 13th); San Jose 18.5% (65-352, 9th).

PENALTY KILLING -- Calgary 83.1% (62-367, 12th); San Jose 80.7% (55-285, 23rd).

INJURIES:

FLAMES -- D Roman Hamrlik (hand) is out. F Byron Ritchie (knee) is still on the injured list but is ready to play when the timing is right for the roster. C Stephane Yelle practised yesterday after taking a shot between the pads Thursday night. He's expected to play.

SHARKS -- F Scott Parker (head) is out indefinitely.

NOTABLE:

Flames captain Jarome Iginla is aware the Sharks will be dangerous as they fight for a playoff spot: "We know they'll be very desperate and hungry." Iginla suggests the Flames are just as determined to string some victories together. "We're very hungry, too."
