Game Over

STEVE MACFARLANE -- Calgary Sun

, Last Updated: 8:26 AM ET

NEXT GAME: FLAMES AT AVALANCHE, TONIGHT AT 7 P.M., TV: SPORTSNET, RADIO: FAN 960

SUN THREE STARS:

1. Jarome Iginla, Flames -- Dominant player on the ice and nearly got his first hat-trick of the season.

2. Kristian Huselius, Flames -- Timely goal and an assist.

3. Miikka Kiprusoff, Flames -- The goalie was stellar in the last 10 minutes of the game.

TURNING POINT:

Kristian Huselius' goal 16 seconds after the Oilers tied the game at 1-1 restored the Flames' lead and their confidence. Jarome Iginla added an insurance goal a couple of minutes later.

BIG SAVE:

Miikka Kiprusoff made a couple of flashy saves with the glove but his trickiest stop came against Michael Peca in the opening frame to protect a 1-0 lead. Peca's wrister bounced off Dion Phaneuf and Kiprusoff had to be quick with the right leg to kick it away. The rebound went back to Peca but he couldn't get much on the second shot.

HARD HIT:

Raffi Torres has dropped down the Oilers depth chart but he made an early impression against the Flames when he drilled Shean Donovan into the boards during the first period. Donovan had just finished a fancy deke around big Georges Laraque and was prone to the big hit.

UNSUNG HERO:

Matthew Lombardi, Iginla's setup man, was sharp with a pair of assists.

FIGHT CARD:

None.

SCRATCHES:

CALGARY -- D Roman Hamrlik (knee) is day-to-day, while

C Byron Ritchie (knee) hasn't yet resumed skating. C Jason Wiemer was a healthy scratch.

EDMONTON -- RW Jani Rita and D Cory Cross both sat out, along with G Ty Conklin.

BURNING QUESTION:

Is there a better player in the NHL than an angry Jarome Iginla?

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Flames (29-14-5) take sole possession of first place in the Northwest Division thanks the to Vancouver Canucks' loss to the St. Louis Blues last night.

NOTEWORTHY:

Tonight's opponent, the Colorado Avalanche, has climbed the Northwest standings without much help from their captain Joe Sakic. The Avs have eight wins in their last 10 games but Sakic is goal-less in 2006.
