Rehab or bust for Marchment

NEW YORK -- The fate of Bryan Marchment's season, and perhaps his 17-year NHL career, will be determined in the next day or two.

An MRI showed the Calgary Flames defenceman sustained a torn MCL and ACL in his left knee in Friday night's 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Major surgery would mean an end to his season and maybe his career, given Marchment will turn 37 in May.

The team is looking into whether aggressive rehabilitation would be enough for the hard-hitting Marchment to return to action before the playoffs.

Flames GM/head coach Darryl Sutter said yesterday no decision had been made on what direction would be taken.

Marchment injured himself attempting a hit on Leafs centre Jason Allison. The Flames rearguard was assessed a kneeing penalty.

Allison wasn't hurt on the play.
